About Old Capitol Farmers Market

Old Capitol Farmers Market is a specialty food store in Springfield, Illinois. It is listed at S 4th St &, 400 E Adams St, Springfield, IL 62701, which places it among the local businesses of Springfield that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

Store size varies enormously, from a small corner grocery with a few aisles to a full supermarket chain location in Springfield with a bakery, seafood counter and food court under one roof. Sales and promotions are often posted in-store or in a weekly flyer rather than online, so prices listed on a website may be out of date. Seafood markets sell live and on-ice product and can usually clean or prepare fish on request for a small fee. Specialty food stores in Illinois may focus narrowly on one category, like a butcher, a rice and dry goods shop, or an import store, so calling ahead to confirm stock for a specific item saves a wasted trip.

The business lists hours on 2 days of the week. Typical hours are 8 am–12:30 pm. It is closed on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday. I used to come to this market every Saturday. I was a vendor for 10 years. Came down today to get some produce. Prices have gotten ridiculous. The main reason I won’t be back is because of the homeless man laying in the street yelling,”got any spare change?” To everyone who passed by. He has been offered food in the past and has refused it. He just wants money. I’m done. I will not be back.

What a great place, unless it's raining. Fresh produce, bread, and meats. Also some crafts if you need a forgotten gift. The biggest sell for me is double snap benefits, it's like %50 off and with groceries going up it really helps. And the people are very nice.

I have visited and lived in a few places around the country, and this is one of my favorite farmers' markets. I especially love coming here early in the morning when it's still cool, and there are still plenty of parking spots AND flowers available (both can go fast!). Sometimes, I can stick around a little longer which means getting an oatmilk coffee from Arrowhead, a pastry or croissant from either Incredibly Delicious or the Amish baked goods stand, walking around to purchase various items, then relaxing outside Buzzbomb with a beer (or an alcohol free drink from The Wakery). Be sure to bring a cooler to keep in your car for perishables so it's easier to relax and not worry about food spoiling. It can be a great way to get your daily steps in too, and people watch! It's even more important now, after the recent fire on Adams, to shop and support local.

Looking for something to do and wanting some fresh veggies, we decided to try out the Farmers Market. It was a great little market. Not as big as the one we have at home, but very nice. I was able to get some great veggies and also some AMAZING granola from Kate's Granola. Definitely check it out!

It was a nice day. The stands were clearly marked. Everyone I delt with was delightful. The food I took home was perfect. The plants I brought home are even better. Thank You smalltown American farmers. No bathrooms. Parking sucks.
